More on the Motorola Droid Android 2.1 Update
We have received a couple of e-mails from alert readers and one insider explaining the cause of the Motorola Droid Android 2.1 delay.
First we received this:
“Not sure if you’ve heard, but the real reason for the latest delay on the Android 2.1 update for Droid phones is due to Motorola’s distribution vendor (Bitfone – now owned by HP). They are having capacity problems with a) the Bitfone application that distributes the updates and b) capacity issues with the current network infrastructure that hosts this application. I spoke to one of the engineers personally and they mentioned that Motorola reps have been “bugging them all day” because of the 3/18 commitment date.”
Take that for what it’s worth. Sounded plausible until we were forwarded this information:
“…Verizon reached out to Phone Scoop. Spokesperson Thomas Pica said in an email, “The Android 2.1 upgrade for the Droid by Motorola was deployed to a small number of Verizon Wireless test users as scheduled. It is expected the broader phased rollout to all Droid by Motorola users will take place, but not just yet. No date scheduled yet.” [via: phone scoop]
Are there any Verizon test users willing to confirm the deployment to a small number of Droid users?
What do you folks think, which explanation seems more plausible?

Motorola Droid Update Not Gonna Happen Today
BGR is reporting that a last minute bug was found late last night and is responsible for the delayed release of Android 2.1 for the Motorola Droid.
My bet is the bug that was found could have something to do with an interaction between Verizon bloatware programs and Android, not necessarily the Android 2.1 OS.
Check out the screen cap obtained by BGR after the jump.
