Rumor: Google’s Nexus One Coming to Sprint?
Has Google’s Nexus One campaign failed? We’ve been hearing rumors about a possible release on AT&T for a little over a week now. Today Gizmodo announced the Nexus One may be landing on Sprint.
Apparently someone over at the ‘modo had a conversation with Sprint’s on-line customer care, here’s what they were told:
Thank you for contacting Sprint regarding the nexus one.
Unfortunately, this handset model is not on offer as of now.Once it is launched, you will see promotional campaigns related to the
launch date, cost and the features of the handset on our Web site and
other promotional media.Thank you for showing interest in our products & services. Please let us
know if you would like us to assist you with anything else.[via: gizmodo]
Now if you have ever dealt with Sprint’s on-line customer care you know they typically don’t know about upcoming devices, and in some cases they don’t know about their current line-up.
Maybe Google has changed their game plan after Steve Jobs of Apple laid down the gauntlet of phone competition. Jobs also said it will release aggressive updates to the iPhone that Google won’t be able to keep up with. Now that’s a statement and a challenge all in one. Or maybe, the poor sales numbers convinced Google they need to step up their game if this carrier-agnostic phone strategy is going to payoff.
The Nexus One has been out for nearly a month, available unlocked and on contract with T-Mobile. We all know it’s coming soon to Verizon, but how many promotional campaigns have we’ve seen from the carriers or Google about the Nexus One? Nada. And, honestly why should Google spend money advertising the Nexus One when they have us doing it free.
Is the Nexus One coming to AT&T and Sprint? Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t. One thing for sure Google has us all talking about it again, there’s nothing better or cheaper than word of mouth advertising.
All I can say is if this rumor and the HTC Supersonic rumor are true Sprint will have one helluva, if not the best Android line of all the carriers. I’m sure all this talk has Sprint customers foaming at the mouth.
