Sprint Confirms WiMax Device Release By Summer – NOT!

Sprint tells Forbes its first 4G handset will launch in the first half of 2010–a few months earlier than many expected.  According to Forbes the device will be “dual-mode”, automatically switching to Sprint’s 3G network in areas where 4G isn’t available. In an attempt to gain advantage over their competitors Sprint is targeting the device and its WiMax service to government and businesses as well everyday users.

During the interview Paget Alves, Sprint’s president of Business Markets, wouldn’t disclose details about the handset. Speculation is that Paget is talking about the HTC Supersonic which will feature HTC’s Sense UI on top of Android 2.1 and bases its design on the HD series. Read more…

Rumor: Sprint’s HTC Supersonic Actually Destined for Russia?

I really struggled this morning with whether or not I should bring you this information.  If you’ve been reading the other tech sites you’ve seen all the doctored screenshots of the HTC Supersonic supposedly destined for Sprint.  They were quickly dismissed as fakes, what with the rounded corners at the top, running on T-Mobile and Android 3.0.

In researching information this morning I ran across this over at the Russian site You HTC – all for communicators HTC Touch. According to this site the HTC Supersonic is reportedly going to a Russian carrier, whether it will be compatible with other CDMA carriers is unknown.

HTC Supersonic will be issued for Russia. Will it be suitable for network Yota, or other WiMAX-operators – is unknown.

Rumor Update: Sprint HTC Supersonic

Earlier this week we reported on the rumored HTC Supersonic, which will reportedly have a 4.3-inch screen and support for Sprint’s WiMAX service.

Follow-up rumors reveal an additional detail: the HTC Supersonic will be one of the first with Android OS 3.0. If this is true, it means the launch probably isn’t coming any time soon. Version 2.1 of Google’s mobile operating system was just released a few weeks ago, so it could certainly be a few months before we see any devices based on version 3.0 on the market. Read more…

Rumor: Sprint to Get Mac Daddy HTC Android WiMAX Device

Reports around the internet this morning are pointing to an inside source at Sprint who has confirmed that Sprint will be getting the Mac Daddy Android device of them all, made by HTC.  Could this be the WiMAX device hinted at by Clearwire CEO Bill Morrow?
