Motorola Cliq Available to New T-Mobile Customers for $9.99
The Motorola Cliq was $199 when it debuted a few short months ago, but right now you can get the Motorola Cliq for just $9.99 shipped with a new 2-year T-Mobile contract through WireFly. You’re limited to the titanium Cliq and you’ll be charged a $35 activation. If you’re an existing T-Mobile customer you’re out of luck, you’ll be parting with $149.99 of your hard earned cash.
However, if you’ve been thinking of jumping to T-Mobile and were eyeing an Android device now may be the time to take that leap, $140.00 is a pretty major savings.
The Cliq runs Android OS 1.5, but here’s good news: rumor has it Motorola will offer an upgrade to Android 2.0.

Android Accounts for 27% of US Data Traffic
AdMob released fourth quarter data traffic numbers and, yes, Apple continues to lead. But Android, now has 27 percent of US traffic.
I realize that when something is new and starting fresh, even the smallest gains can look like big growth. Android made a strong showing in 2009 and now has a broader portfolio of carriers and devices. The Nexus One for T-Mobile is only the latest in a few high-profile Android launches, such as Motorola’s Cliq and Motorola Droid. As the lineup continues to diversify across carriers and manufacturers, more growth is expected. Read more…

Motorola Cliq Sales Slipping?
Sales of the Android-powered Motorola Cliq, which is being exclusively offered through T-Mobile USA, are falling short of expectations, according to a research note from Oppenheimer analyst Ittai Kidron said sales of Motorola’s second phone based on Google’s Android platform, the Droid, were in line with expectations, but that the Cliq was suffering because of issues with battery life. He said Motorola is preparing a software patch to fix the problem, but that T-Mobile has lost interest in the device, thus contributing to a drop in sales.
Despite the shortfall, Kidron said it should not cause Motorola to miss its earnings target for the fourth quarter. ”Competitive pressures will rise, but overall we believe the company is on the right track to 2010 year-end profitability,” he said.
T-Mobile spokeswoman Alexandra Trask disputed the suggestion that Cliq sales were falling behind sales targets. Though she declined to provide specific sales figures, Trask told FierceWireless that sales have been positive. She also confirmed that there would soon be an over-the-air update for the Cliq, but did not say what it would be for; additionally, she said the Cliq’s battery life has performed at expected levels.
Trask also took issue with the suggestion that T-Mobile has somehow decreased its support for the Cliq. “That couldn’t be farther from the truth. This is a device we’re really excited about for the holiday season,” she said. ” It’s very prominently featured in our stores. We’re doing a lot from a marketing perspective and merchandising perspective.”
Verizon Wireless, Motorola’s partner on the Droid and the nation’s largest wireless carrier, has put its marketing muscle behind the phone, one of two Android devices in its lineup (the other is the HTC Droid Eris). T-Mobile has four Android phones, including the Cliq, and has a major campaign focusing on the HTC-built myTouch 3G. The Cliq sells for $199.99 with a two-year contract.
“I think the different experiences on the devices help differentiate them,” Trask said, referring to T-Mobile’s Android phones. “We don’t give them less love just because there’s more of them.”
Motorola plans to release at least 20 smartphones next year, most running on Android.

AdMob: Android Is Growing & DROID Is Very Popular
AdMob just released some statistics detailing the mobile web space detailing usage, device market share, and other data that shines a rather flattering light on the Android platform. Considering it’s been only a year since the T-Mobile G1 first launched and considering again that most of that year was spent with only one device, it’s rather impressive how quickly Android has shot up the statistics. According to AdMob, 20% of US mobile web traffic comes from Android devices, which is a solid second in overall rankings. Imagine how much it’ll be when recent Android devices like the DROID and Hero actually are available for longer than a month.
In another graphic (after the jump), it provides a breakdown of web traffic among all Android devices. Here’s the nuts and bolts:
- HTC Dream – 36%
- Motorola DROID – 24%
- HTC Magic – 21%
- HTC Hero – 8%
- Motorola CLIQ – 6%
- Other – 5%

T-Mobile’s Motorola Cliq Now Available to New Customers
When T-Mobile USA released the Motorola Cliq last month, only this carrier’s current customers could buy it. This smartphone is now available to anyone who is interested in a slider running Google’s Android with Motorola’s social-networking additions.
The Cliq will eventually replace the T-Mobile G1, and like its predecessor has a sliding keyboard and HVGA capacitive touchscreen.
This smartphone is selling for the $200 with a two-year service agreement. Those who are on one of this carrier’s contract-free plans will need to pay $400.
To put in an order, go to www.t-mobile.com.
An Overview of the Motorola Cliq:
The Cliq is a “slider”, with a 3.1-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen and a sliding landscape-oriented QWERTY keyboard.
It runs Google’s Android OS, and comes with a suite of entertainment and productivity software, much of which ties in to Google’s free services.
This smartphone is the first with Blur, Motorola’s new Android app that lets users work with a variety of social networking and email services from the homescreen. It also offers access to thousands of third-party software titles through the Android Market.
The Cliq is able to access T-Mobile’s 3G network, plus it has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
It is bundled with a 2 GB microSD memory card, and has support for up to 32 GB cards.
In addition, this smartphone has a 5 megapixel auto-focus camera with video capture and playback at 24 frames per second, and a 3.5 mm headset jack. It also sports a GPS receiver and a digital compass.
The Motorola Cliq is available in two casing colors, White and Titanium.

T-Mobile Releasing the Samsung Behold II November 18th.
The spotlight for Android is certainly busy the past couple of days. After the Droid ad onslaught this past weekend, everyone is focused on Verizon’s Droid. But with the Motorola CLIQ now available, the CLIQ is jumping back into the mix. And that’s not even mentioning the best Android phone currently on the market, the Sprint HTC Hero, being released just a week ago. So is there room for more Android phones?
T-Mobile certainly thinks so. According to this leaked slide, the Samsung Behold II will be released on November 18th. The Samsung Behold II is going to pack a 3.2 inch AMOLED screen, 5-megapixel camera and comes running Samsung’s own TouchWiz UI. TouchWiz is supposed to give easy access to frequently accessed applications and of course, offer widgets galore.
I wasn’t excited about the Behold II before but since the purported November 18th release date is less than a month away, I am a little more optimistic. With the CLIQ being a QWERTY-slider device and the Behold II being a touchscreen only phone, are these two devices the new T-Mobile G1 and myTouch 3G?
What do you guys think?

Motorola Hopes Android is Their Savior
Motorola to release 80 per cent of 2010 portfolio on Google Android platform, with UK version of Droid expected on Vodafone before Christmas and further Android handsets in new year
Motorola has announced an aggressive Android rollout strategy, claiming 80 per cent of all its handsets launched in 2010 will be based on the platform.
Its first Android offering, and major device release in nearly a year, the Dext, was released exclusively on Orange in the UK last month. The device has been named Cliq for the US market.
Motorola shares rose more than eight per cent on Monday as investors anticipated the success of the manufacturer’s second Android phone, the Droid, launched in the US on Verizon Wireless.
Verizon has marketed the handset as being superior to the iPhone in terms of its product specification.
The UK version of the Droid, which has the working title ‘Sholes’, is expected on Vodafone before Christmas.
The Droid features a touchscreen and QWERTY slider, five megapixel camera and flash. It has been trailed already in the US with an Apple iPhone-baiting advertisement.
A tablet version of the Droid is also expected next year, also running on the Android platform and featuring an eight-megapixel camera.
Other Android devices from Motorola, including the ‘Motus’ and ‘Zeppelin’, are due in the new year, across various price points.
Motorola UK country manager for mobile devices Fraser King told a Data Select dealer conference this month: “Our portfolio for the next 12 months and strategy is all about Android.
“80 per cent of the products we launch next year will all be based on the Android platform and our vision is to take what we are doing with Android and social networking and social connectivity and drive it down in to the masses and capitalise on trends we are seeing in the mobile market.”
