What’s Up with Verizon’s Sexist Ad Campaigns
First we had the Droid and it’s manly man reference, not to mention they called the iPhone a digitally clueless beauty pageant queen. Which for the record I thought was kind of funny. Now we have the Palm Pre Plus in all its housewife beauty.
Their new Palm Pre Plus commercial just might get some of the women’s rights groups up in arms.
Is it me or does the woman at the beginning of the commercial sound like the stereotypical housewife, speech impediment and all who has nothing better to do than plan the family meals and track the kids piano lessons? I have a feeling a lot of women will be turned off by the portrayal and men will find the phone too feminine. Come-on what self respecting man would walk around with a phone targeted at the stereotyped housewife?
I hate to say it, but you know I’m going to. I’m afraid Verizon has already killed any chance the Palm Pre Plus had at being successful. Now every time I see some dude with any iteration of the Palm Pre I’m going to silently chuckle to myself and think what a wimp, he should get a real phone.
Next up should be the Motorola Devour commercials. A friend of mine thinks the Devour looks like a bubblegum phone. I can see it now a 13 year old tween complete with pigtails blowing bubbles with her bubblicious OMG’ing and LOL’ing with her girl scout troop via text.
Nice going Verizon you just shot yourself in the foot with this one.
